    Redmi 8

    Redmi 8

Xiaomi has taken its base Redmi series in a new direction, with a weaker processor than the previous model but improvements overall in terms of design and features. The company is hoping to deliver a more rounded experience, so while gamers might be disappointed, there's enough for most poeple to be satisfied. The Redmi 8 feels great in the hand, with a relatively sober exterior and a choice of three jewel-toned colours. The build quality is excellent, and you won't find a rough edge anywhere. However, this phone does borrow a lot from its less expensive sibling, the Redmi 8A.

The Snapdragon 439 SoC is relatively underpowered but there's 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage. You also get a 5000mAh battery and support for 18W fast charging, though only a 10W charger is included. The HD+ screen measures 6.22 inches and is decent for a phone at this price.

While general performance was good for day-to-day use, the cameras were disappointing. Images didn't always come out looking sharp, and photo quality was especially poor at night. Xiaomi's MIUI software is also full of bloatware and ads.

Overall, this is a good phone to buy if you want a polished experience, but you might need to spend a bit more if you need raw performance.
