Nokia N920 Internet Tablet Leaks Out; Maemo 6 on Board

Nokia N920 Internet Tablet Leaks Out; Maemo 6 on Board

Every once in a while we run out of concept phones and we have a look of the devices leaked on the web lately. While some of them will never be real, others have the tendency of becoming commercially viable products soon after getting leaked online.

The latest device we’ve stumbled upon is Nokia N920, the Internet Tablet that follows Nokia N900 and brings Maemo 6 to the scene.

The device can be checked out in the image above and it seems that it’ll be hitting the market in Q1 2010. The N900 and N920 share quite a bunch of common specs, but you have to know that the freshly leaked tablet packs a 4.13 inch capacitive multitouch display.

Of course, Nokia N920 gives up the full QWERTY keyboard, in favor of touch navigation and it runs Maemo 6 OS as mentioned above, so we don’t see why the N900 won’t support the same operating system.

CLIPit Incredible Phone Design of 2010; Features a 12 Inch Screen, Persian Turquoise Stone

CLIPit Incredible Phone Design of 2010; Features a 12 Inch Screen, Persian Turquoise Stone

Want a device that’s both futuristic and elegant, both sci-fi and scheduled for 2010? A team of designers created the incredible Nokia CLIPit concept phone, that is considered 2010 material and comes with incredible feats, like using the finger print as a SIM, a 12 inch screen and Persian turquoise stone encrusted.

This is the creation of Mohammad Zamani, Ziba Hemmati, Mir Kazem khalifezadeh, Ali Khajuee and Rasul Shokrani. Nokia CLIPit is made out of brushed steel, among others and it features a touch pad dot matrix screen, a clip on design and “smart fabrics” that pull out the 12 inch screen. On top of the device there’s a steel touchscreen based on a group of tiny Light Emitting Diodes incorporated in the steel section.

This can generate dynamic buttons, serving all purposes, from navigation, to dialling numbers and music control. If you pull down the device’s clip, it’ll turn into a hands free and you should also know that the Nokia concept can be connected to any other gadgets by clipping it to them.

If you’re curious about the huge 12 inch screen, know that the basic display is a 3 inch unit, but it’s made out of a flexible cloth, based on Philips’ Lumative technology. The 3 inch color screen is the upper layer of the screen, but it can expand its size via “smart fabrics”, that are cloths with sensor nets between their layers, with touch support embedded.

Thanks to this technology, Nokia CLIPit can become a pocket folding 12 inch laptop. Although not many people noticed this beautiful concept, I dare to say that it’s as important in 2009 as Nokia Morph was in 2008. Great effort from the designers and it would be a pity if CLIPit remains a concept.

B-FLOW Concept is Curvy, Brazilian Like Samba

B-FLOW Concept is Curvy, Brazilian Like Samba

It’s been a while since we last saw a Nokia concept phone, but we’re glad to finally check out an original device of this kind. Designed by Diego Peralta, the Nokia B-FLOW phone is inspired by the Brazilian culture, costumes and landscape. The device combines both the Finnish classic design and Brazilian curves.

Of course, we’re dealing with a Nokia touchscreen phone and we learn that B-FLOW set a relaxed design tone and comes with an original curvy lateral design. Its case is inspired by the “hues of a summer sunset at the Copacabana beach”, as claimed by the designer. Also, we learn the case was made using a three layered co injection of polycarbonate.

The base layer is orange, followed by a translucent pearl white layer and finally a transparent coating on top. There’s also a camera lens on board, hidden by a photopolymer screen, that can become transparent, once the camera is turned on. Nokia B-FLOW can be customized according to the user’s need and it also comes with social networking features.

With all of these details and photos, it’s hard to believe that this device is only a concept…

Nokia 8800 Erdos runs Symbian, has 5MP camera, Wi-Fi and GPS

Nokia 8800 Erdos runs Symbian, has 5MP camera, Wi-Fi and GPS

Nokia 8800 series of luxury phones have always focused on high quality materials and superior build quality, while holding back on the spec sheet. With the Nokia 8800 Erdos this reputation is about to change.

First off, "Erdos" is just a code name so expect that to change at some point. And second - this won't be an Arte. The Arte phones have had largely the same design, differing in materials only. The 8800 Erdos changes not only the design but also the way the phones are built.

The Nokia Ardos body will be constructed out of a single piece of "bullet silver". This apparently is marketing talk for stainless steel, so you probably can't kill a werewolf with it, but carving out the body out of a single piece of metal is all the rage with high-end laptops and the ridiculously expensive luxury phones.

The screen of the Erdos however is covered with regular scratch-proof glass, rather than sapphire, which is the usual weapon of choice in such cases. The glass covering the screen though turns silver when the display is off, giving the impression that the phone is a single slab of stainless steel. The screen itself is an OLED unit with QVGA resolution and a diagonal of 2.4 inches.

The high-end design of the Nokia 8800 Erdos includes a rather unique feature too - it's a slider like the rest of its siblings, but the keypad raises to the level of the display when you slide it out. This should make the keys of the top row much more accessible.

Sounds good already, but we haven't even gotten to the good part yet - the Nokia 8800 Erdos is the first of its breed to be a full-on smartphone. It'll run the Symbian OS S60 and feature Wi-Fi and A-GPS. The internal memory is 8GB, though there's no card slot.

The camera is the best in the luxury class with its 5 megapixels and Carl Zeiss lens with autofocus. There's a dual-LED flash too.

Rounding off the specs is the reasonably compact size of the phone. The 8800 Erdos measures 116.9 x 50,3 x 15.0 mm, though its weight is kept on the hush-hush. There is also a dedicated noise reduction microphone on the back.

The Nokia 8800 Erdos will be available in October with tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900) and dual-band 3G/HSPA. The price is the other thing missing from the rumored specs, though this could easily top the price point of the Gold Arte.

Oh, and here's a video to give you a better impression of the design:
