    nokia E63

    nokia E63

Nokia E63, previously rumored to be called Nokia E72, has recently appeared in a set of live shots, the first ones with the smartphone. These not only that confirm the existence of the device, but they also show the world that E63 has a lot in common with Nokia E71, launched by the Finns a few months ago.

By the way it looks, Nokia E63 seems to be a poorer version of E71. That’s because it’s almost completely made out of plastic (gone is that metallic case of E71) and its features are a bit incomplete.

According to a list of specs found at the Telefon-Treff forum (automatic translation from German), the new Eseries lacks GPS and a front-facing camera.
(Nokia E63 next to Apple’s iPhone)

The handset’s other features, however, are similar to those the E71 offers, including:

        *
          GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA connectivity
        *
          A 240 x 320 pixels display
        *
          Symbian S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1
        *
          Wi-Fi
        *
          Bluetooth
        *
          A 3.5mm headset jack
        *
          Flashlight function
        *
A camera of at least 2 MP
        *
          MicroSD card support
        *
          Micro USB
The new smartphone is also said to be thicker than the E71. But I wouldn’t worry too much. The E71 is only 10mm-thin, so if that “thicker” means 12-14mm, the E63 will still be good in our eyes, right?

As we previously reported, Nokia E63 should be available in three versions: E63-1 (for Europe/Asia), E63-2 (a no-camera version that might have a bigger internal memory) and E63-3 (for America).

Now, if only Nokia would officially announce any of these versions…

    nokia 3608

    nokia 3608

While there are certainly enough Nokia clamshell phones to go around for everybody, new, more interesting models are always welcome. Just like this new model for the Chinese market.

The Nokia 3608 is supposedly a new Nokia clamshell that’s destined for China, which will surprisingly rock CDMA instead of GSM, and possibly a dose of 3G EV-DO data.
From this lone photo that we have we can say that it looks sexy, but I don’t think the spec sheet would impress you just as much.

The specs can be anything but ground-breaking: 1.3 megapixel camera, support for GPS (most likely external), external touch sensitive music controls and support for up to 4GB microSD cards.

The user-interface is also touted as “Series 40 Nokia like UI” so this will apparently be a variant of the said ubiquitous UI. Talk time is billed at 3.5 hours max, while standby time can go up to 11 days.

Currently, there’s still no word on pricing or a release date, but unless you’re in China or headed there, I guess it wouldn’t really matter much now, would it?

    nokia 2228

    nokia 2228

Launching the 1606 flip phone in the US was not enough for Nokia today, as the Finnish manufacturer has also unveiled a new CDMA candybar, the Nokia 2228.

In the Finns’ words, the 2228 is a uniquely designed phone. And that’s true, if adding a metallic half-bottom to a handset that otherwise looks very familiar is a “unique” thing to do.

Anyway, let’s move on to the features of Nokia 2228. According to the info found at the Nokia Press Bulletin Board, the 2228 measures only 12 millimeters in thickness and it can be used as a modem to connect a PC to the Web.

Nokia 2228 also has a LED indicator light, which will flash when incoming calls or messages are waiting for you.
Other known features of the new candybar include:

        *
          1.3 MP camera
        *
          S40 interface
        *
          Nokia media player
        *
          Handsfree
        *
          Speaker dependent voice recognition

Nokia 2228 will be launched before the end of 2008 in select CDMA markets, which most probably means the US too. Its price was not announced, but it’s said to be an affordable one. Logical, since the handset only offers entry-level capabilities.

    nokia 1606

If you’re a US mobile user who happens to like simple flip phones, Cricket has just launched something for you: Nokia 1606, an entry-level clamshell that works on the said carrier’s AWS network.

Of course, Cricket only offers its mobile services in limited areas of the US, but it still has ~3.3 mil customers who need phones too, right?

So, after the more evolved Samsung JetSet, Leap Wireless’ subsidiary has now come up with the Nokia 1606. The new phone is not one to be excited about, but it might prove to be a good choice if you don’t need too many features.
Here’s a rundown on the specs of Nokia 1606:

        *
          1.8-inch internal display with 128 x 160 pixels, 262K colors
        *
          96 x 32 pixels monochrome external display
        *
          Tri band CDMA 1xRTT connectivity
        *
          Voice memo recorder
        *
SMS & MMS, predictive text input
        *
          Speakerphone & Voice Activated Dialing
        *
          PC contact synchronization
        *
          LED flashlight
        *
          Micro USB
        *
          8MB of memory
        *
          Cricket Games and Apps capable
        *
Talk time: up to 3.5 hours
        *
Stand by time: up to 11 days
        *
          Weighs only 2.68 oz
        *
          Measures 3.35 x 1.77 x 0.65 in
No memory expansion slot, no camera, no MP3 player. But hey, some of us might not need those.

Nokia 1606 can be found in all of Cricket’s stores, retailing at $129.99. If bought online, from Cricket’s website, the flip phone will cost you only $109.99.

    nokia 6650

    nokia 6650

Initially an exclusive handset launched by T-Mobile, the Nokia 6650 will soon make its way to customers of AT&T, according to documents that were recently published by the FCC.

And as you can see pictured below, AT&T’s Nokia 6650 looks ready for action, featuring the same 2 megapixel camera with LED-flash, external display, stainless steel cover and clamshell form factor seen on T-Mobile’s own release version.
Though it’s a phone of small proportions, do not underestimate its power. The Nokia 6650 for AT&T will still feature Series 60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 as its OS, which is the same one found on the two latest high-end Nseries handsets (the Nokia N79 and N85).

Also on-board the Nokia 6650 is a built-in GPS with A-GPS, microUSB port and microSD memory card slot. WCDMA 850/1900 and HSDPA data is supported.

Pricing and release date of the AT&T Nokia 6650 has not been confirmed yet.
