Simplicity is the new complexity… at least in the world of gadgets, handsets and portable devices. Adhering to this trend there’s also a Nokia concept handset, the 03-Phone that mimics an armadillo and features the simplest of functions. It was created by Jonathan C. Smith. 03 packs a basic interface, buttons with tactile and audio feedback, a jog wheel that can be squeezed to fit the device in your pocket and… that’s about it. You’ll have to open the handset in order to make a call, but back to the design, I have to say that this is not quite an impressive device, although its simplicity can be admired.
user tob!s are probably the most constant creators of Sony Ericsson concept phones (Razec and the others too), great looking concepts that is, like the new one below. We’re dealing with an 8 megapixel cameraphone concept with support for autofocus, a huge touchscreen and a great case pattern at the back. What do you make of it? Cyber-shot Android? Touch focus included?
Just as the heat was killing our neurons, we found something cool enough to distract us from the evil sun: Esato user tob!s’ latest Sony Ericsson concept phone. This is yet another render of the XPERIA X5, bearing the codename Nadine, but it manages to surpass every other render so far, design-wise.
XPERIA X5 is available in Chrome Silver, Ocean Blue and Sunny Orange, each of these versions looking well enough to compete with any HTC or Nokia device. As far as specs are concerned, we get the best on the market: 12 megapixel camera with autofocus, Xenon flash and HD video recording, plus a 3.5 inch touchscreen.
There’s also a touch keyboard on the features list, Android OS (2.0 most likely) and even a Sony Ericsson App Store, something that seems impossible now, considering the company’s financial problems. Great job as usual tob!s and this might just be the best Sony Ericsson design I’ve seen this summer.
What would tob!s’ XPERIA X5 Nadineconcept phone be without a proper App Store? The Esato board member published a concept screenshot of the “Sony Ericsson AppsNow Arena”, obviously only a project of his and not the real deal.
Considering SE’s financial losses, it’s very unlikely they’ll launch such a service in the following years. The concept looks nice, though…
Samsung S9110 wristwatch phone unveiled, no video calling though
22/07/2009 15:44
Today Samsung announced the S9110 - the world's thinnest wristwatch mobile phone. Sporting a decent (for the class that is) feature set, the fully-touch operated Samsung S9110 is the next device that will try to make all you James Bond dreams come true.
Launched as a direct competitor to the LG GD910, the Samsung S9110 is almost 2mm slimmer, standing at the pretty acceptable 11.98mm. It also packs a larger 1.76" touchscreen and matches its Bluetooth connectivity and speech recognition features.
The Samsung S9110 also puts Outlook sync support to the table but unfortunately lacks the 3G support of the GD910. Well, we guess even with the advance of technology they still had to leave something out to make the S9110 so slim.
The lack of 3G not only means there's no high speed data on the thing, but more importantly - there will be no video calls support. Now that's a bummer, where's the fun in a wristwatch phone that doesn't allow video conferencing?
The Samsung S9110 should be able to offer a built-in speakerphone instead in case you really prefer talking to your wrist rather than using a Bluetooth headset. A scratch-resistant glass take cares of the protection of the little fella's pretty face.
The body of Samsung S9110 is crafted from stainless steel, while the strap is made from leather, giving it some pretty stylish looks.
The Samsung S9110 will hit the shelves in France this month for an estimated price of 450 euro
Here come some good news for texters on T-Mobile - there are two new QWERTY phones coming your way. The Samsung Gravity 2 and Samsung Comeback were spotted in the wild a while back, but only now do they make their official debut.
The Samsung Comeback sets up the ground for many properly named sequels, at the small price of not being an actual comeback. The funny name aside, Samsung Comeback takes the Communicator way, being a normal looking, but bulky phone on the outside and opening up to reveal a second, bigger screen and a four row QWERTY on the inside.
The Comeback is available today for 129.99 US dollars on a contract and the Gravity 2 will hit the shelves in August, its price still unknown. You can get the Comeback in either Pearl white plum or Frost silver cherry and the Gravity 2 in Berry mauve and Metallic pumpkin.
