Ipad 4
30/10/2012 21:16
While we’ve got our hands full with iPad Mini speculations and Apple has just confirmed an event for its launch on October 23rd, Bob Freking is already thinking about the iPad 4. Not only thinking, but also doing, since he created a concept of the future generation Apple tablet, that you can see below.

The iPad 4 brings colored cases, borrowing from the flavours of new iPods, plus it keeps the 9.7 inch diagonal size and the widescreen Retina Display idea. It’s powered by the Apple A6 processor from the iPhone 5, making everything work faster and smoother. The cameras have also been upgraded and get the same flash as the iPhone 5 and better 13 megapixel optics. Another thing he improved was the thickness, since the iPad 3 was a bit bulky.
So, as you may have expected the jump in specs isn’t huge, the design is pretty much the same and I doubt Apple would change the design of the main iPad for the years to come. Now, the iPad Mini is an entirely different story, one that will be told starting next Tuesday. Any expectations for that? Buying the product?

Mini

There’s something in the air and that’s fresh Apple product scent, meaning the iPad Mini. Rumored a lot, leaked a lot and almost here, the device just got a mockup created by a Gizmodo reader. Martin Hajek designed a beautiful iPad Mini mockup, that fits all the leaks so far. He included a Lightning port and some comparisons with the bigger iPad and iPhone.

The device looks elegant and has some pretty rounded corners and two stereo speakers that should sound great. So, what we have here is a 7.85 inch tablet with Apple branding and anodized aluminum back in different colors, like the iPod Touch. It would be interesting to see brightly colored iPads this time around, differentiating them from the bigger main series models. The color choice would also help Apple sell more to people looking for playful colours, not only black or white.
The iSight camera is discretely integrated and if I were to speculate, I’d say this iPad Mini comes with a 5 megapixel camera, Apple A6 processor, Retina Display resolution, 16, 32 or 64 GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM and it will have a LTE version. iOS 6.0 is available from the get go, plus some new feature or app to lure customers into loving this gizmo more. Maybe a special game or special application for making music or e-reading? A special magazine-based service or social networking app? We’ll see… Till then, good job Martin!

Ibox

Straight from ADR Studio, the crew that delivered many Apple concepts now comes the iBox. This device seems to be a combo between a 7 inch iPad Mini and a set top box solution. Coming in 2012, this product will be the core of your living room and your study, wherever a TV is found, actually…

The iBox acts as a set top box and a touch device, sporting a 7 inch display and serving as the remote and more for the HDTV you own. Siri allows you to command your TV through the iBox and you can also change channels, record a show, find a movie based on your mood and all of that while interacting with iTunes. iBox also connects to the iPad and iPhone, so you’re able to also place calls through it and even video calls from the TV are enabled via FaceTime.
There’s also the iMove app that teaches gesture commands and gets support from the TV, much like some sort of reworked Kinect. The TV experience controlled by a 7 inch set top box tablet, that unifies the iPhone, iPad and iMac sounds like a pretty good idea, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see if there will be an Apple iTV television set or not, in the end.

Guilherme Schasiepen, the man behind this brilliant Apple iTV concept is back, this time with a new iPod. This design dates from last year, fall and it’s an iPod Shuffle with a touchscreen display. How cool is that? It still clips onto your clothes and the size is about the same as the older iPod Shuffle, but with a widescreen display.

The iPod nano was a hit when it came and people started creating watch designs based on it, so why wouldn’t a touch iPod Shuffle catch on? It’s small, it’s comfortable, it might even be priced right this time… Hopefully folks with big, thick fingers will get used to the input on this tiny little player and maybe there’s a way to integrate this with the iPod, iPad and iPhone experience, maybe as some sort of headset or extra microphone?
The industrial design of this next generation Shuffle is mint, but is the battery able to live up to the expectations? Also, since this is a Shuffle, it’s most likely a jogging device, but with a screen it suddenly becomes more fragile and prone to breaking… Would you get one?

Remember the Microsoft Surface technological table? This concept was forgotten a while ago, but some people are fond of it, like Adam Benton who created an equivalent in the Apple universe, the iDesk concept. Published on Maclife, this design features a huge chunk of touchscreen being used as a workaholic’s desk, with the ability to sync to all of the iDevices on the table.

This device is able to sync with any iOS gadget placed on it and it doesn’t even need a mouse, as the whole touch area is a giant trackpad. You can make calls, edit Office documents, view Adobe files and watch vides straight on the iDesk. This huge workspace also seems to project a virtual mouse and maybe keyboard too, unless you like the normal one. I guess you can also scan pictures with it and instantly post them online, if it’s not too much to ask. This desk could either have a Mac built in or connect to one that you already own.
All content is synced within iCloud and kept up to date with all your other devices. You can also move around the stuff you need, like on a real desk… For example, you can move the Facebook statuses aside, open a YouTube video, resize a picture, check an email and open a new document, all of that while drinking coffee. Would you buy such a device even if cost… let’s say $2000 or $3000?
